Abstract:
- Starting around 1923, the Harvard Forest decided to carry out several cuttings in uneven-aged pine on light soil to test the workability of the group selection method in particular. Three cuttings on separate lots in northern Worcester County were arranged, one of them on a tract belonging to the New England Box Company in the town of Warwick, Mass., another on a tract owned by the E. Murdock Company in Winchendon, Mass., and a third on an area formerly owned by the New England Box Company but now a part of the Harvard Forest, in the town of Petersham.
- In 1933, nearly a decade after the cuttings were made, the tracts were re-examined to determine under what conditions and to what extent reproduction had been secured.
