- Clear cutting methods in New England white pine have led almost invariably to the windrowing of slash in parallel strips across the cutting area. Lumber practice has demonstrated that when trees are dropped so that the tops fall into these parallel strips, logs are skidded most easily and cheaply as the result of the clear avenues which result between the slash piles.
- The object of studies on white pine in North Central Massachusetts and Southeastern New Hampshire is to bring out the rate of decay of white pine slash, the factors which influence decay, and the relation of such slash to the future crop. The last point will be considered in this report.
