- Abstract:
- Connecticut woodlands which are in the old field succession tend to be understocked. They contain many individual trees of good species but too wide spaced to produce long clear stems. The crown area is capable of producing very rapid diameter growth. Experiments were initiated to determine the feasibility of pruning this advanced growth to the height of a log in order that there be some timber produced as well as the seed needed for completion of stocking the area.
