- Abstract:
- Since the advent of old field white pine as a commercial crop in the early 1900s, this species has been thought of as the main commercial species of New England. Many difficulties arose in the attempts to secure a second generation, and in most cases planting became necessary in order to secure white pine reproduction. A discussion in forest genetics has brought to light the possibility of genetic differences in the planting stock, and raised the question if genetic studies could be conducted on the white pine plantations of the Harvard Forest.
