- Abstract:
- At present the system used in mapping cut-over areas is the common compass and chain survey, which involves plotting the results in the office - in most cases a time consuming process. on the other hand, when using the coordinate calculator, the plotting is done as the work progresses, eliminating the later office work. W.H. Martin built one of the instruments at the Harvard Forest, and although it is of a rough and ready style, this in no way detracts from its usefulness, since the basic idea is to have a rapid method of obtaining latitudes and departures.
