- Abstract:
- Part I by M.R. Hill - Seed Source and Planting. Due to the great variety of sites, mixtures and treatments it was found impossible to ascribe any significance to seed source. Mattock, shovel and planting tool (Harvard model) were successfully used in open grass and cutover planting sites.
- Part II by R.B. Pope - The Effect of Land Use History. The problem consists of determining what correlation, if any, exists between land use history and the success of spruce plantations on the Harvard Forest. The Primary purpose of determining any such correlations is to aid in selecting sites for future spruce plantations and to help in predicting the success of young spruce stands, both natural and planted.
- Part III by R.C. Cameron - Silvicultural History and Damage. The first step was to compile a summary of all spruce stands from the plantation summary files. Second all pertinent information on each individual part of the case was obtained from the plantation and stand files. The final step was to visit each stand in the field, examine it carefully, discuss its history, and decide as to its success or failure, as influenced by the various factors.
