- Abstract:
- These studies on the physiology of lateral root formation and root growth were conducted on the roots of the garden peas, Pisum sativum, Alaska or Pilot variety. The largest proportion of the experiments were carried out on isolated root tips grown in a nutrient medium containing a mixture of mineral salts, 4% sucrose, and added traces of thiamin and nicotinic acid. Established root tissue culture methods, using sterile technique, were utilized. In many cases, treated root material was fixed and studied in histological section.
