- Abstract:
- Upson (1938) and Stout (1952) attributed certain features of the landscape in the vicinity of the Harvard Forest to the action of intense freezing and thawing, presumably during intervals in which the continental ice sheet was a few miles to the north of the area. Evidence offered by these authors in support of their periglacial hypothesis is presented in Table I.... In this paper the evidence presented by Stout and Upson in support of their somewhat conflicting conclusions will be examined, and evidence derived from further studies into the nature of the "warp" or "loam" will be presented.
