- Experiment 56-2 is designed to answer the question, "If the present understory is removed, will the growth of the residual overstory be accelerated; if so, how much?" The answer to this limited question will suggest the growth effect that might be obtained by making a low thinning. The possible growth effect of a combined low-thinning and a high-thinning might be tentatively inferred, but a firm answer would depend on further experiments. The experiment is located in Tom Swamp I.
