- Abstract:
- The original intention of this study was to identify (by morphology and more definitively by chromosome count) the two ploidy races of the common polypoidy, Polypodium virginianum, the diploid and the tetraploid, and the triploid sterile natural hybrid, if that was to be found. By the third week, of four, of the study, attemps at separating the species by chromosome counts failed and spore size proved to be insufficient. The last few days were therefore devoted to dissecting populations in the field to determine patterns of vegetative propagation.
