  • Coring samples were taken from four plots of Pinus resinosa to examine fire's effect on the growth of trees by altering the nutrient availability of the soil.
  
  
  • Plot 1 (PH III) was burned by prescribed fires in 1985 and 1986.
  • Plot 2 (PH III) was in an area around plot 1 that was not burned.
  • Plot 3 was the site of a severe ground fire in 1957.
  • Plot 4, adjacent to plot 3, was burned in 1957 to a lesser degree.
