- Abstract:
- Black Gum Swamp in north-central Massachusetts [Prospect Hill Tract, Harvard Forest] was selected as a site where the Holocene history of spruce could be investigated by conventional pollen studies, and where the modern ecological studies of the forest ecosystem could be related to the record of spruce abundance at a point near the modern range limits of red spruce and chestnut.
