Abstract:
- Past land use can influence species distributional patterns for decades or even centuries as a consequence of (1) alterations in resources and environmental conditions that have persistent adverse effects of population demography ("environmental change"), (2) intrinsic limitations in plant colonization ability ("historical factors"), or (3) a combination of these factors.
