Abstract:
- The mark of past fire should be clear in the organic remains (blackened trees), soil quality, and the composition of new sprouts in an area. From this evidence, it should be possible to compare land of varying fire history, and achieve an understanding of the process by which fire changes the landscape.
- Site 1: site of a recent spring fire that occured on the right edge of Route 32/122.
- Site 2: Site of the 1957 fire that occurred in the northwest region of Petersham.
