- Abstract:
- Proposed research approach consists of an explicit comparison of forest response to HWA versus logging within 6,000 km transect that extends through central and western MA to the borders of CT, VT and NH. The study is structured to assess the status and quantify the ecological impacts of HWA infestation and various types of hemlock logging at stand and regional scales which are critical to sound management and ecological interpretation. Identify a range of acceptable silvicultural alternatives (e.g. do nothing, partial cut, underplant, salvage infested trees, etc.) in accordance with contrasting owner objectives and environmental settings. Disseminate these findings and management guidelines to a wide range of user groups.
