- Study site in the understory of a mature, moderately-shaded, mixed forest at the Harvard Forest. Species include various hardwoods, hemlock and white pine, with white pine particularly prevalent which had grown up on old agricultural fields. Normal branches and damaged trunks of both hemlock and white pine were examined for eccentric growth and reaction wood.
