- Abstract:
- This project examined the rock concentration and soil strata in different stands at the Harvard Forest. Criteria for classifying the stands were tree content and land use history. Tree content did not show a significant trend in the lower soil strata, but it did affect the thickness of the layer of decomposition. Tree content showed no significant pattern to rock concentration. Previously cultivated sites tended to have smaller rocks, while the pasture land and woodlot both had large and small rocks in the soil. Pasture land and woodlot could also be identified by stands with many large rocks on the topsoil.
