- Abstract:
- This study seeks to shed some light on the possible future of New England forests if the unimpeded spread of the woolly adelgid continues. The study examines the effects off the eastern hemlock on the amount of light that reaches the forest floor. A variety of measurements to determine temperature and light differences among hemlock and hardwood stands were used. The results indicate that the loss of hemlock will lead to less shading in the forest, but these conclusions are all based on results that were heavily influenced by variable testing conditions.
