- This directory contains digitized and indexed versions of Dick Chaisson’s collections of documents relating to the Harvard Forest and Tom Swamp. Dick Chaisson is a local historian and journalist (Worcester Telegram & Gazette) who lives in Athol and has been collecting articles and writings pertaining to the North Quabbin region for over sixty years.
- Each of Chaisson’s original collections (Harvard Forest and Tom Swamp) consisted of a series of newspaper articles, book excerpts, photographs, maps, and other items in both original and photocopied form. The items in the original collections were filed primarily by date, and in some cases by topic. I have indexed all of the items in both collections in the file ‘Chaisson_Collections_Indexes.xlsx' contained in this directory. All the items in the Tom Swamp collection have been scanned and saved in the directory ‘TomSwamp'. Nearly all of the items in the collection have been scanned and saved in sub-directories within the directory ‘Chaisson_Collections'. Scans were saved as pdf files according to the Text Document Scanning Protocol, except for photographs which were saved as jpg files according to the Photograph Scanning Protocol. The only items not scanned were large publications that the Harvard Forest Archives should have original copies of (e.g. Annual Reports). I did all of the scanning and indexing in the Harvard Forest Archives between August and December, 2009.
