- NEFSC was established in 1939 at Harvard Forest. Annual meetings were held in one of the Northeastern states or Eastern Canadian provinces until 2008. W.H. Lyford (Harvard Forest Soils Scientist) was the first elected Historian for NEFSC, then D. Mader, then L.O. Safford.
