- We propose to investigate the patterns, causes, and consequences of regime shifts across a hierarchy of local, landscape, and regional scales in forested ecosystems where time-scales of historical observation limit the opportunity for empirical study. We will do so by expanding and synthesizing a rich array of paleoecological, paleoclimatic and archaeological data from New England.
