- Abstract:
- The goal of the S3RCN is to understand the drivers and consequences of alternative land-use scenarios and to advance sustainable land-use trajectories by synthesizing existing and catalyzing new research. Objectives: 1. Create a diverse, transdisciplinary network of stakeholders, scientists, and practitioners to address fundamental challenges in scenarios-based sustainability science. 2. Develop new knowledge about the sustainability and ecosystem service consequences of land-use decisions aggregated to the regional scale. 3. Improve decision-support tools for landowners, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations interested in attaining more sustainable land-use trajectories. 4. Enhance education opportunities for graduate students and post-docs in transdisciplinary research projects with stakeholders; and provide advanced training for scientists of all ranks in stakeholder engagement, model coupling, and science communication.
