- Abstract:
- Regeneration Survey - June 25, 1990. Site: Old Plantation 25K, Prospect Hill I. Approximately 5 months after clearcutting plantation 25K, a 30 meter x 30 meter deer exclosure (electric fence) was erected in the opening, south of the stream. Within this exclosure, 25 milacre plots were set in a grid pattern, with PVC pipes (painted red) marking plot centers. A similar grid of 25 more milacre plots was set just to the north of the exclosure. Each PVC pipe is engraved with the plot number. All Stems above 10cm. in height were tallied by species, height class, and origin (stump, sprout or seedling). At each plot, the percent cover and height of slash was recorded. Presence of herbs was commented upon. Browsing at each plot was recorded as none, low or high.
- The purpose is to determine the differences between the exclosed and open area at this times, and then re-sample the grids in 2 or 3 years to see if deer browsing is having an effect on tree regeneration.
