- Abstract:
- Forecasts of the impacts of climatic change on ecosystems have emphasized changes in average climatic conditions not changes in climatic extremes or variation. Yet it is often the anomalies - e.g. the floods, heat waves, droughts, and early frosts - and changes in their severity, frequency, and duration that have the greatest impacts. We therefore ask: are our modeled forecasts extreme enough? We will reuse existing long-term data on climate and assemblages of organisms to assess how climatic variation and extremes are impacting community structures.
