- Dr. Gast pursued several different aspects of forest tree physiology during these years - the mineral nutrition of trees, especially of seedlings, methods of determining mineral requirements of trees, using mineral analysis of leaves, seedling establishment of hybrid trees including the establishment of a tree nursery in Petersham, and the measurement of growth rates in tree seedlings.
